i won’t forget the warmth
July 27, 2014
snow fell atop the lake that day
as a cygnet drifted through still ice water,
under whose crimsoned wings sing
in a fine, lilted brogue
Darío’s elegiac hymn.
oh, swan! oh, sacred bird!
the view below brings your dress to waltz
as you effervesce. oh, how we miss you
in our besotted eyes as we lay awake.
in few divine hours,
the song filled the lake with frigid tears.
one stream lost where many once followed—
iced into memory.
